The Mighty WurliTzer Concert Series is sponsored by Twin City Ambulance
Joe began piano lessons at age 9 with the Felician Sisters at Villa Maria Academy. He moved onto playing the organ at age 10. A year later, the family organ was sold to pay for his father’s medical bills. Joe asked his pastor at St. Augustine Church if he could continue practicing on the church organ. Joe then continued to learn to play the organ on his own, without formal lessons. In 1971, he began playing regularly for church services at Our Lady of Pompeii Church in Lancaster. In 1975, Joe was one of the staff organists playing the Mighty Wurlitzer Theater Organ at the Riviera Theater in North Tonawanda, NY for one year. He returned to the Riviera Theater in 2013 where he continues today to play and maintain the Mighty Wurlitzer for various theater events. In 1996, Joe led a group of volunteers in acquiring and coordinating the installation and refurbishment of the 41-rank, three manual, Moller Pipe Organ for Our Lady of Pompeii. After 39 years of being the organist and choir director for Our Lady of Pompeii, Joe became the organist and choir director for Sacred Heart RC Church in Bowmansville, NY. There, he installed a state of the art Allen Digital Computer Organ which is used in weekly church services. Joe is now a substitute organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew, NY. Over the years, Joe has played historic organs in various churches throughout the United States and Europe. In addition to playing the organ, Joe has repairs and maintains various organs throughout Western New York. He is an electrical engineer by trade and a member of The Church Musicians Guild of Western New York.
Joe’s concert will feature an old-fashioned audience sing-a-long!
This event is free of charge. Good-will donations will be accepted the evening of the concert.
